How Pulmon-EZ Helps Minimize Bleeding or Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH)
Post-race “bleeding” (exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhage, or EIPH), affects the vast majority of Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses. In addition, EIPH frequently occurs in hunter-jumpers and other horses performing intense exercise in events, steeplechases, and polo. It is commonly believed by jockeys, drivers, trainers, and owners that EIPH has a substantial negative affect on race performance.
“Bleeding” is believed to be caused by leakage of blood from pulmonary capillaries when pulmonary arterial pressure increases to high levels due to intense exercise. Nitric Oxide is a gaseous molecule produced in the lungs that plays a crucial role in regulating pulmonary vascular tone during exercise. Nitric Oxide relaxes the walls of pulmonary blood vessels and decreases capillary pressure.
Nitric Oxide has been shown to reduce the high levels of pulmonary artery pressure that are believed to cause Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH). An intensely exercising horse must be able to produce large amounts of nitric oxide in order to minimize “bleeding.”
Now there is a product that is designed to provide essential nutritional support for "bleeders." Pulmon-EZ™ is a nutritional supplement that is designed to promote equine lung health by supporting production of Nitric Oxide.
Nitric Oxide is synthesized in the body from its nutrient precursor, the amino acid arginine. Attempts to increase nitric oxide production by administering large quantities of arginine have met with limited success. Additionally, administering substantial amounts of arginine may have undesirable side effects, either through stimulating insulin release or by affecting other mechanisms.
There has been a need for a way to increase the amount of nitric oxide produced within the body using relatively small doses of arginine. Achieving these previously unattainable results was made possible through the development of a proprietary product formulation methodology, known as NPS.
NPS™ stands for "Neurotransmitter Production Support". This approach to product formulation is designed to systematically promote synergistic interactions of specific ingredients. For example, in addition to promoting Nitric Oxide production, Pulmon-EZ™ contains selected bioflavonoids to help minimize the weakening of capillary walls from oxidative damage.
Pulmon-EZ™ provides the nutrients a horse’s body needs to form neurotransmitters that promote blood flow in the lungs. Pulmon-EZ™ combines selected neurotransmitter-precursors with all-natural ingredients that support neurotransmitter synthesis.
